The Office of Workforce and Opportunity in Montgomery has been awarded $1.5 million from the United States Department of Labor for the YouthBuild Montgomery (YBM) program.
Under the grant 70 "opportunity youths" of ages 18-24 who do not have high school diplomas will be able to receive educational services, skills training, leadership development, job placement, and support services.Â
Participants are required to live in these Montgomery zip codes:Â 36104, 36105, 36107, 36108, 36110, 36111, and 36116.Â
"The program will consist of two, 12-month cohorts. Participants will receive 30 hours of program services per week," said an announcement online. "YBM participants will divide their time between the classroom, where they will earn a high school diploma or equivalency, and workplace training."
"It is anticipated that YBM participant outreach will begin after the contract staff positions have been filled. The grant will also allow for the substantial renovation of two previously selected affordable housing units, for people in need."
These contract staff positions are available with the grant:
