City of Montgomery offers food assistance options after SNAP benefits suspended

Following the suspension of SNAP benefits due to the government shutdown the City of Montgomery is offering residents a number of alternatives for food assistance. 

“We want to make sure residents know where to turn for help,” said Mayor Steven Reed in a statement. “Our goal is to get this information into the hands of those who need it most.”

The following resources are available: 

• Heart of Alabama Food Bank

• Hands On River Region

• WhyHunger - Call or text your ZIP code to 1-800-548-6479 to locate nearby food programs.

• Call or Text 2-1-1 - Trained specialists connect residents to local food pantries, meal programs, and community resources.
