The city of Selma paid one of the leading engineering firms in the Southeast to update its zoning laws two years ago. But they were never adopted.

City Councilman Clay Carmichael brought this information to the attention of the mayor and the rest of the council at a work session via Zoom on Thursday. The new ordinance was developed and written by Goodwyn Mills and Cawood of Montgomery, whose website describes them as one of the leading architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast. Brian King of GMC joined the meeting to explain that two years ago GMC submitted an updated comprehensive zoning ordinance to the city of Selma, but for some reason it was never adopted.

“The city has already paid for it,” King said. “It is done and is a good zoning ordinance. It just needs to be implemented.”
