The Alabama African American Civil Rights Heritage Sites Consortium met during a two-day event to discuss efforts to preserve historic civil rights sites.

According to wbrc.com, consortium executive director Rev. Lukata Mjumbe said that they are teaching new "foot soldiers" stories about the buildings and other sites important to the Civil Rights Movement.

These stories and buildings are largely in Birmingham, Selma, Montgomery, and elsewhere in the Black Belt.

It was mentioned that the consortium is working with the Mellon Foundation and private citizens to create augmented and virtual reality presentations to tell the stories.

It is also hoped that this will increase tourism in historic areas.
