Fourth judicial circuit judge Collins Pettaway Jr. has retired after 13 years on the bench and 40 years in law.

According to WSFA, he was elected in 2012 to serve an area that includes Dallas, Wilcox, Perry, Hale and Bibb counties.

He has reportedly had a hand in cases that have shaped Alabama law.

Though he stepped down from the bench he plans to run a private practice and will return to serve as a judge whenever needed.
