Dallas County is one of seven counties in the state in which more than a quarter of its citizens live in poverty.
That’s the finding of a report released by Alabama Possible, a statewide nonprofit organization that works to break down barriers to prosperity through advocacy, education and collaboration.
According to the report, 26.7% of the people in Dallas County live in poverty. Six other counties share the distinction of having 25% or more of their citizen living below the poverty line – Perry County at 30.75%, Greene County at 27.9%, Sumter County at 29.2%, Macon County at 27.9%, Barbour County at 25.5% and Bullock County at 30.8%.
