Dallas County voters chose to re-elect Vivian Rogers for another term as District 2 commissioner in Tuesday's election in a tight race.
Rogers beat contender Ronald Kenan Sawyer by a close margin – 50.89% to 48.96% - to continue to serve as District 2 Dallas County Commissioner.
Although Rogers never fell behind, at one point she was up by only two votes.
The race went down to the wire with the last box of the night deciding the winner. After that last box was counted, Rogers won with 1,999 votes to Sawyer’s 1,923.
After the final results were announced, Rogers said the close call made her “a little nervous” but she remained confident. “I’m back, and I’m going to finish the work that I started.”
Rogers, who is a Democrat, said with Donald Trump on the ballot, “we knew it would be close and tight. Because most Republicans vote straight Republican.”
However, she said enough people voted a split ticket for the local races that put her on top.
Swearing in ceremony for commissioners will be at 10 a.m. Nov. 13 at commission chambers and will be followed by an organizational meeting.
