The Keith Middle-High School Bears took a tough loss on Friday night as they battled the Verbena High School Red Devils.Â
Under the bright Friday night lights, fans from both sides filled the stands and lined the fences as these two teams clashed in a high-energy, down-to-the-wire football game that lived up to the hype. In a contest marked by grit, guts and big plays, the Red Devils edged out the Bears in a nail-biting 28–26 victory.
The back-and-forth battle continued for four full quarters. Quarterback Eric Hall ran for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to bring the game to 18-16. The Red Devils answered back with a touchdown to make the score 18-22 with 5:51 left in the fourth quarter. The Bears were determined not to give up, when Hall ran for another touchdown to make the score 26-22 with 3:16 left to play in the game. The Red Devils made a last chance play resulting in a touchdown to ultimately seal the deal.
Hall ended the game with three rushing touchdowns and Glenn Johnson had one rushing touchdown and a 2-point conversion.
Keith will travel to Selma next Friday, Sept. 12 to face the Ellwood Christian Academy Eagles at 7 p.m.Â
