The AISA Class AAA Region 2 Morgan Academy suffered their second loss of the 2025 football season to the Abbeville Christian Generals 58-34 on the road in a non-region contest Friday night.

With the loss to the Generals, the Senators fell to 3-2 overall and remain 1-1 in region play. This was the first football meeting ever between the Senators and the Generals.

While the Senators proved to be over matched in this contest, they gutted out a 34-point offensive performance.

The Senators scored first Friday night on a 9-yard Alex Johnson touchdown run to make it a 6-0 contest with 6:53 left in the first quarter.

However, after a failed onside kick by the Senators, the Generals wasted little time taking an 8-6 lead with 6:45 left in the quarter.

A holding call on Morgan Academy negated what would have been a 70-yard kickoff return by Sean Pope. And the Generals took a 16-6 lead with 20 seconds left in the first quarter.

But Alex Johnson connected with Speedie Pernell on a 62-yard touchdown bomb to make it a 16-12 contest still in favor of the Generals with 11:50 left in the second quarter.

Once again, the Generals responded to take a 24-12 lead with 6:18 left in the half.

After another failed onside kick by the Senators, the Generals scored to make it a 30-12 lead with 9:47 left in the third quarter.

Pernell would take the ensuing kickoff back 75 yards for a touchdown, and Alex Johnson would rush for the 2-point play to make it a 30-20 contest still in favor of the Generals.

After yet another failed onside kick, the Generals took a 36-20 lead with 5:26 left in third quarter.

But the Senators would not quit with James Jones scoring on a 12-yard touchdown run on the first play of the fourth quarter to make it a 36-26 contest with the Senators trailing.

The General answered to make it 44-26 with 7:45 left in the game. And the home team pushed the lead to 50-26 with 4:20 left in the contest. But the Senators would not go away. Alex Johnson connected with Pernell on a 40-yard touchdown pass and then ran for the 2-point play to make it a 50-34 contest with 3:19 remaining.

The Generals would close out the game by taking a 58-34 lead.

The Senators will be looking to bounce back with a homecoming win over the Bessemer Academy Rebels in a non-region contest Friday, Sept. 26.

The homecoming will mark the 20th anniversary of the Morgan Academy 2005 State Championship Playoff team and 25th anniversary of the 2000 Morgan Academy State Championship Playoff teams.
