Derick Smith Southside

Southside High football star Derick Smith has switched his commitment from playing at the University of Alabama to Auburn University.

Smith of Selma announced his pick for Alabama in March. However, Bama 24/7 Sports reports four-star recruit Smith of Selma made the decision on Saturday night shortly after a "Big Cat Weekend" visit to Auburn.

He is the second UA recruit to make the switch to in-state rival Auburn, joining four-star defensive lineman Antonio Coleman of Saraland.

Southside welcomed Alabama's new head football coach Kalen DeBoer and its athletic program and coaches in January.

In a story last summer, the Black Belt News Network interviewed Derick Smith about his recruitment to the Tide, Auburn, Arkansas and Florida and other teams.
