The Southside High School Lady Panthers took on the Wilcox High School Lady Jaguars in the first round of the Class 3A Area 4 Tournament. Although Southside was the host, Wilcox was listed as the top seed for their area in this game.

The Lady Panthers got off to a good start as they took an early lead in the game. Costly turnovers caused Lady Panthers to have to fight back, but once the Lady Jaguars controlled the momentum it was a done deal. The Lady Jaguars took the 55-29 victory to advance to the area championship.

B. Moore led the Lady Panthers in scoring with 9 points. T. McMillan led the Lady Jaguars in scoring with 26 points. A. Lexis finished with 22 points.

The Lady Panthers head coach, James Spears, stated, “We came out with a lot of energy, but the turnovers killed us. Not having a true ball handler is what’s been hurting us all year. We have a young team with four freshmen, one seventh grader and two eighth graders. It’s a rebuilding year for us and we showed some improvement as the season when on. I think we will be fine in the upcoming season if we stick together and work this offseason to get better.”

The Wilcox Lady Jaguars will play the Thomasville Lady Tigers for the Class 3A area 4 championship on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 5:30 p.m. at Wilcox Central High School.
