The deaths of a 32-year-old woman and her three-year-old daughter who were found dead in a Sumter County river have been ruled a murder-suicide after months of investigation.  

According to AL.com, Shardee McGill and her daughter, Janae, were reported missing on Sept. 23 by McGill's husband, Johnathan. 

A search began in which the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) worked with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, the Jackson Police Department in Miss., MBI, the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Jackson, Miss., Field Office and Birmingham, Ala., Field Office. 

Shardee McGill’s car was found in Epes. Later she and Janae were found in the Tombigbee River near the town. Her husband was questioned by police but released. 

Janae was determined to be a homicide and McGill was determined a suicide in the following investigation. No additional suspects were found to be involved.
