Ricky Woods has been named interim head football coach of Demopolis High.

Demopolis High School has named an interim head football coach to lead the 5A team in the fall.

Ricky Woods, a well-known coach from Mississippi, was named interim coach in an announcement on Thursday. He replaces former coach Lance Tucker who resigned in June after two years at the helm.

Woods has 42 years of coaching experience with 33 as a head coach and a record of 300-71. Woods spent five years at the community college level with a record of 35-13 and at the junior college level, he took the teams to two North State championships and were the 2012 Brazos Valley Bowl Champs in College Station, Texas, Demopolis schools said in the online statement.

As a high school coach, Woods led his teams to eight state championships and three state runner ups. The teams are in Mississippi and Tennessee.

Woods has won 2004 EA Sports National High School Football Coach of the Year, was named Clarion-Ledger State of Mississippi Coach of the Decade (2000-2010), 2004 Schutts South West Regional National Coach of Year Nominated National Coach of the year by the state in 2017 and 2014 Tennessee State Coach of the Year. He also was inducted into the Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fame in 2016.

Woods is married to Susan Woods, a retired high school math teacher, for 46 years.
