A Demopolis High School student has been selected for the United States Air Force Academy after being nominated for Rep. Terri Sewell's military service academies program.Â
Jane Wright was the student accepted into the academy, said an announcement on Sewell's Facebook page.Â
The program takes nominations of students in the seventh district for four of the five military academies in the state. The selected students then serve a minimum of five years in the military after graduation.
"Nominating students to attend our service academies is one of my greatest honors, and I am so proud of Jane and her fellow scholars who accept the call to serve," Sewell said.Â

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Fire
Weather Watch for Central Alabama, which is in effect from
Saturday morning through Saturday evening.
* WINDS...Northeast 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 19 percent.
* IMPACTS...The combination of a dry air mass and windy
conditions will result in critical fire weather conditions.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions
are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible
Red Flag Warnings.
