Townhouses in a planned development on Maria Avenue in Demopolis will be rental units, the chairman of the city’s planning commission said Sept. 14.
The development was going to be a mix of units for rent or for purchase, Planning Commission Chairman Andy Renner said.
The commission held a public hearing on Sept. 8, but no one came to speak for or against the development. The developer will bring final plans to the planning commission for their approval Sept. 15 at 5 p.m. at Demopolis City Hall. If approved, the plans will go to the Demopolis City Council for their approval.
The townhouses will be “upscale” homes of two and three bedrooms, Renner said. The townhouses will ring the outside of a curved street that connects to Maria Avenue. The inside of the arcing street will hold a parking lot and a green space adjoining Maria Avenue.
The plans for developing the former Mauvilla Trailer Park have gone through several changes.
This will be Demopolis’ first Planned Unit Development, a type of mixed-use project that gives developers more flexibility.
Demopolis needs as many as 500 housing units, city officials say.
