The 26th Annual Deuce Komradz Picnic on March 23 in Montgomery has been canceled after police voiced concerns about safety.

The specific concerns were not mentioned in a statement made by the Montgomery Police Department (MPD), which said that the event was to take place on city property but was shuttered "out of an abundance of caution."

Gateway Park was the original location and will be closed for the the day along with roads in and around the Ridgecrest to "protect residents, ease traffic flow, and prevent potential disruptions."

“Our top priority is the safety and well being of our residents,” said MPD Chief Graboys. ”After extensive coordination with organizers and the community, we determined that canceling the event at Gateway Park is the most responsible step to preserve safety."

The statement went on to say that organizers have not released an alternative location but that updates would be made as more information became available.
