Shelters serving domestic abuse victims in Dallas, Montgomery and elsewhere in the Black Belt were part of a $900,000 grant from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA).

“The staff members of domestic violence shelter agencies in south Alabama and throughout the state work tirelessly to help victims and their families escape often harmful and hurtful situations,” said Gov. Kay Ivey in an announcement. “I commend these organizations for their dedication and service.”

Selma and Blackbelt Regional Abuse (SABRA) Sanctuary Inc. received $50,000 for shelter, judicial assistance/advocacy, transportation and other services in Dallas, Greene, Marengo, Perry, Sumter and Wilcox counties.

Montgomery Area Family Violence Program (Family Sunshine Center) was granted $167,723 for crisis intervention, shelter and support services for victims of domestic violence, stalking and harassment and teen dating violence in Autauga, Butler, Chilton, Crenshaw, Elmore, Lowndes and Montgomery counties.

“ADECA is pleased to join Gov. Ivey in supporting these agencies for their compassionate and dedicated assistance for victims,” said ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell.
