The family of the bystander who was shot and killed by a stray bullet during a fight in the Selma Walmart parking lot on Friday night has started a GoFundMe page to raise money for his funeral and memorial service.
Marcus Martin, 40, was shot while sitting in his car in the parking lot of Selma's Walmart off U.S. 80. The family is hoping to raise $17,000 for funeral services "to ensure that we can honor his memory in a way that reflects the incredible person that he was," the family said.
"Marcus touched the lives of so many with his kindness, love, unwavering spirit and his gift of music," the family said.
Selma Police arrested two juveniles on Saturday on charges of capital murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle during the shooting on Friday night. Both suspects are being held in the Perry County Correctional Center with no bond.
Police Lt. Ray Blank in a press conference on Saturday said Martin “got caught up in the middle” of a disagreement between at least two persons that started inside Walmart and “spilled out” into the parking lot at around 8 p.m. on Jan. 31. Gunshots were exchanged and police found Martin shot to death in his truck.
