Gov. Kay Ivey has ordered flags to be lowered to half mast today after the passing of Montgomery police officer Carlos Edward Jamal Taylor.

Taylor died six years after an injury that he sustained while serving in the Montgomery Police department. He was 29 years old.

"On behalf of the state of Alabama, I express my deepest condolences to his family and fellow law enforcement officers," said Ivey in a memo. "Officer Taylor will forever be remembered as a hero."
