A former state trooper from Montgomery, Michael Anthony Evans, 52, and his co-defendants have all been sentenced for a conspiracy to traffic cocaine from Mexico to Alabama.Â
The conspiracy involved multiple individuals from across Alabama and outside of it. Others from the Black Belt to be sentenced were:Â
Jim Carter, Jr., 58, of Montgomery: 327 months in federal prison.
Bryce Johnson, 38, of Union Springs: 210 months in prison.
Police began investigating in 2023 and later found that Carter traveled to Texas and Mexico to help organize the trafficking. In June of 2024 agents recovered six kilograms of cocaine during a delivery to Carter.Â
Previously, Othello Howard, 29, of Montgomery was sentenced to 46 months in prison on June 16 and Jimario Thompson, 37, of Montgomery was sentenced to 66 months in prison on Aug. 18.
