Great Alabama 650 race

Paddlers in the Great Alabama 650 on the Coosa River.

The Great Alabama 650 Paddle Race will begin on Oct. 4 with Selma and Montgomery being among the areas that it will pass through from Lake Weiss in north Alabama to Ft. Morgan in south Alabama. 

The event is said to be the longest paddle race in the nation. A prize of $2,000 is awarded to three categories, these being: solo male, solo female and two-person tandem. 

Competitors race by canoe, kayak or paddle board.
