"Hundreds" are expected to turn out for a media event at the Alabama State Capitol on Wednesday, Feb. 28 in the aftermath of the Alabama Supreme Court's ruling that embryos are children.Â
Several fertility clinics have closed their in vitro fertilization or IVF services in response to the ruling.
A press release from Resolve: The National Fertility Association, said that attendants will voice concerns about the potential for the court's decision to impact IVF treatments.Â
"Infertility is a common struggle, and one in six people impacted by infertility may need IVF to build their families," said the press release.Â
Speakers at the event will be:Â
- Barbara Collura, President and CEO of RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association
- Dr. Beth Melizia, Alabama Fertility
- Alabama patients, doctors and families
The event will be held at 9 a.m. at the steps of the Capitol on 11 South Union Street.Â
