Ivey: Alabama must be smart with how it allocates $4B in federal money

Alabama must be smart with how it allocates $4 billion in federal funds from the American Rescue Plan Act, Gov. Kay Ivey said in her State of the State speech on Jan. 11.

“We must be smart with this one-time money and commit to the people of Alabama that we will wisely invest – not just casually spend – these dollars,” Ivey said. “This is not ‘free money.’”

Ivey challenged the Legislature to make allocating the funds an early priority, and she urged lawmakers to “put these monies to meet some of Alabama’s biggest challenges like statewide broadband connectivity, water and sewer infrastructure, as well as investing funds in our hospitals, nursing homes and other health care providers.”
