A celebration and ribbon cutting was held for Lagoon Park Softball Complex in Montgomery after the park underwent $2.4 million in renovations on Thursday, March 6.
The project was finished in February, said an announcement from the City of Montgomery, featuring a number of upgrades and additions.
“This is another exciting project as we continue to make upgraded and new investments in our outdoor recreation spaces across the City of Montgomery,” Mayor Steven L. Reed said.
Fields were re-sodded and five were converted to fast pitch softball fields with new backstop netting. Permanent outfield fencing were also included.
“This significant investment which will allow us to compete not just locally, but across the state and nationally when it comes to attracting tournaments here to Montgomery,” said City Council President Cornelius “CC” Calhoun.
Also among the additions were a new shelter pavilion and a new covered batting cage with a turf surface and lights.
Renovations were made to the Umpire locker rooms with showers and restrooms along with renovations to the main restrooms.
The architect was McKee & Associates and Beasley Construction was the general contractor.
“This is a great opportunity for tourism and economic growth and development as we welcome families and players from all over the state and throughout the region,” said District 2 City Councilwoman Julie Beard.
