Long-Lewis Automotive Group has announced Kristen Jones as the Local Hero of the Month for July.

Jones is the head of Bloom House, located on Dallas Avenue in Selma. Bloom House is a nonprofit that provides free services to foster children and to foster parents.

The building was severely damaged in a fire incident that occurred on July 5. It is requested from Long-Lewis that the public consider donating to the inventory that includes clothes, toys, high chairs, toiletries and other items.

"She would always supply it for foster parents and foster kids at no cost or obligation to them," said a message from Long-Lewis. "She has stood in the gap for foster children and foster & adoptive families over the last several years giving so much of her heart, time and self continuously!"

"She truly has a heart for our children in our foster/adoptive community. She helps out so many and always with a smile on her face."

Nominees for Local Hero of the Month are chosen based on contributions made to the community. The chosen nominee will be given $500 for "Outstanding Community Service" and a Certificate of Appreciation.

To nominate someone, comment on their Facebook post and the one with the most likes will be chosen. The winner will be announced on the first day of the following month.

A winner can only be nominated every six months in order to encourage more people to take part in the effort.
