Lowndes County Sheriff Chris West was recently arrested and booked on misdemeanor charges of harassment and obstruction of government operations following a county commission meeting in June where West allegedly made threats.Â
According to the Lowndes Signal, District 1 County Commissioner Robert Harris signed a warrant for the arrest of West, who turned himself in at the John Hulett Detention Center on Aug. 29.Â
On June 24 a disagreement occurred between the two regarding an action to relocate investigators in the sheriff's department over to the former Hayneville Town Hall. It was this meeting that the alleged threats were made.Â
In subsequent meetings the Lowndes County Commission eventually voted to press charges on West, as well as to recommend anger management classes for him.Â
