The AISA Class AA Region 2 Wilcox Academy Wildcats stunned the powerful AISA Class AAA Region 2 Lowndes Academy Rebels 40-12 at home Thursday night.

With the loss, the Rebels fell to 7-2 overall but remained 4-0 in region play. With the win, the Wildcats improved to 6-2 overall and remained 3-1 in region play.

“Whenever you can win against a great program like Lowndes, it feels good. Great job by our entire team tonight!” said Wilcox Academy head football coach Lebo Jones.

For the Wildcats, Julian Curry led the way on offense rushing for 239 yards on 26 carries and four touchdowns. Jim Vick had a 4-yard touchdown run, and Marvin Moultry added a 6- yard touchdown. JJ Sessions kicked four extra points to complete the scoring. 

Also, for the Wildcats, Steele Swanner had 11 tackles; Moultry had a sack and a fumble recovery; Curry and Vick each had a fumble recovery; and Lee Hollinger had an interception.

The Wildcats will host the Sparta Academy Warriors for a regional contest at home on Oct. 24. Lowndes Academy will be off on Oct. 24 but will close out the regular season against non-regional opponent the Hooper Academy Colts on the road on Oct. 30.
