A Dallas County resident has qualified to run for governor.
State Sen. Malika Sanders-Fortier has qualified to run as a Democrat for governor, according to Alabama Democrats.
Fortier recently announced she will not run for reelection of the District 23 Senate position she held since 2018. Her father, Hank Sanders, who held that Senate seat for nine terms, qualified to run again.
Fortier will compete against four other candidates vying to make the ticket to run against Republican incumbent Gov. Kay Ivey.
The four other Democrat candidates are Yolanda Flowers, Patricia Jamieson, Arthur Kennedy and Chad Martin.Â
