A man who was convicted for a murder in Marengo County in 2024 has lost the challenge he made to the verdict, said an announcement from state Attorney General Steve Marshall on Thursday.Â
On Nov. 26, 2024 Jaylion Devontea James, 27, of Alberta, was convicted for the murder of Darryl Bridges in 2020.Â
The announcement stated that on April 22 of that year James approached Bridges with an accomplice to buy drugs but had a plan to rob him. The accomplice testified that James shot Bridges four times during the incident.Â
James reportedly blamed the accomplice but this was not accepted by the jury and he was later sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.Â
When James challenged the verdict the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed the conviction in a ruling made on Jan. 30.Â
