Brandon Deshawn Webster, who is the ex-boyfriend of Montgomery Police Department Detective Tanisha Pughsley, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for her murder in 2020.

According to an announcement from Montgomery County District Attorney Daryl Bailey, Webster was reportedly abusive to her and she was granted a restraining order against him.

However, on July 6 in 2020 Webster was said to have entered Pughsley's residence and opened fired with an assault rifle. Pughsley was killed while a guest in her home struggled with Webster and escaped.

After his arrest and trial Webster was convicted for two counts of capital murder. One was in violation of a court issued protection order and the other was a count in the commission of a burglary.

Webster was also given 10 for attempted assault of the man who escaped the house that day.

Pughsley was a native of Chicago who moved to Alabama for college where she earned a degree in criminal justice before she later became a detective for the Montgomery Police Department.

She also mentored girls at the Sequel Group Home in her spare time. She was 27 years old at the time of her death.

Pughsley's mother Sharon Pughsley began a nonprofit to help domestic abuse victims titled Tookie’s Voice.

Bailey released the following statement in response to Webster's sentencing:

“My Office is dedicated to bringing to justice those who needlessly take the lives of innocent victims. This case was particularly important to me because the victim was a beloved member of our law enforcement community. Det. Pughsley, like many of us who choose this profession, was committed to helping our citizens on and off duty, especially our children. She left an indelible mark on all who knew her and accomplished so much during her four years on the police force. It is tragic that her life, one filled with so much promise, was so senselessly and violently cut short. I pray her family can find some peace knowing that Brandon Webster will spend the rest of his life behind bars with ZERO possibility of ever getting out.”
