The Marengo County Historical Society is moving forward on its plans to move to the Old School on Main Street in Demopolis.Â
Kirk Brooker of the Marengo County Historical Society and leader of Friends of the Old School told the Demopolis City Council on Jan. 22 that the contents of the museum are being moved into storage at the Old School in March.
Plans are for the museum to reopen at the Old School on Main Street a few blocks away from the Rosenbush building when renovation at the Old School is complete.
Brooker said the Friends of the Old School have secured several grants since they became a nonprofit organization, including grants to renovate four classrooms and a large upstairs classroom that will house the museum. They are pursuing grants for an elevator, handicap-accessible rest rooms and other improvements.
