The Marion Police Department is the recipient of a mini grant from Blackbelt Women Rising, with the funds to be used for training in responding to domestic violence.Â
A statement from the City of Marion announced that Blackbelt Women Rising gave a grant of $750 for specialized training officers to respond to domestic violence cases with "professionalism, compassion, and effectiveness" on Dec. 17.Â
"A special thank you is extended to Blackbelt Women Rising for their continued commitment, advocacy, and investment in both survivor safety and law enforcement capacity throughout the Black Belt region," said the statement. "Their unwavering support and the ($750) grant award make a meaningful and lasting impact on the communities we serve."
According the city's statement all police departments that have participated with required meetings with Blackbelt Women Rising are eligible to apply for mini grants during the month of December.Â
