Shoppers in downtown Selma have a new incentive to explore local businesses this holiday season.

The schedule for a weekend of events leading to Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 19 in Selma is available for view. 

Jan. 15 

A Criminal Justice Mass Meeting is scheduled for tonight at 6 p.m. Governor candidate Doug Jones will be the keynote speaker for the meeting at First Baptist Church. 

Jan. 16 

"The Trauma We Carry" movie screening and discussion will be held at Foot Soldiers Park on 1018 Water Avenue at 6 p.m. 

Jan. 19 

The Selma (AL) Chapter of The Links will host the 33rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast on Jan. 19 at the Selma Convention Center on 211 Washington Street. The keynote speaker for the 2026 event will be Dallas County District Court Judge Vernetta Perkins Walker with the theme "Three Decades, One Dream: Strengthening Our Community”.

A wreath laying and candlelight vigil will be held at 5 p.m. at the Historic Tabernacle Church on 1431 Broad Street.
