Each member of the Montgomery City Council must prove they live in the district they represent every April 1, councilors voted on Sept. 15.
The new procedure comes after the newly elected District 3 Councilor Marche Johnson when it was found that she apparently did not live in district.
A special election was recently held for a new councilor. Gregory Crawford and Johnnie Sankey will face each other in a runoff on Oct. 13.
Councilor Oronde Mitchell described the new procedure as “another layer” of accountability.
In other business, the council set a hearing to revoke the business license of Capital Recycling on 3800 Mobile Highway for Oct. 20.
City Attorney Lyn Head said Greater Washington Park residents have complained of trash, junk and overgrown grass at the recycling center.
Drew Gable, Capital Recycling’s attorney, said the center has been cleaning up the property, and he asked the council to reinspect the area before setting the hearing.
The Montgomery City Council meets at 5 p.m. every first and third Tuesday of the month at City Hall on 103 North Perry Street. Recordings of meetings can be found on YouTube and Facebook.
