Montgomery County Commission issues statement on Jackson Hospital agreement

The Montgomery County Commission has released a statement following an agreement that was reached between Jackson Hospital and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama. 

The hospital was tied up in litigation against the insurance company over reimbursement rates before the agreement put the matter to rest. 

Officials have expressed relief over the result, including Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed and Gov. Kay Ivey as fears grew over the hospital closing due to its financial troubles. 

The county commission released the following statement: 

The Montgomery County Commission is pleased to learn that Jackson Hospital and Blue Cross Blue Shield have reached an agreement that ensures patients will continue receiving healthcare services they rely on without interruption.

This is welcome news for our residents, families, seniors, and workforce. Many of whom depend on consistent access to quality, local healthcare. We applaud both organizations for working together to find a solution that puts patients first, and brings much needed stability to our community.

As a Commission, we remain deeply committed to supporting access to healthcare, and advocating for the resources necessary to improve the overall health and wellbeing of all Montgomery County residents. Strong, reliable healthcare systems are essential for a solid community.
