Officials in Montgomery County celebrated the opening of a new storm shelter at the Flatwood Community Center on Tuesday.

An announcement from the Montgomery County Commission stated that the shelter can withstand winds up to 250 mph and "equipped with modern safety features".

Additionally, officials showcased a new playground and pavilion in the community.

"From safety during severe weather to spaces where families can gather and play, this project is an investment in our community today and for many years to come," said the announcement.
