Montgomery County Sheriff Derrick Cunningham has been named the 2026 Sheriff of the Year by the National Sheriffs’ Association.Â
"This is one of the most prestigious honors in law enforcement, recognizing exceptional leadership and service among more than 3,000 sheriffs nationwide," said a post on social media by the Montgomery County Commission.Â
"Sheriff Cunningham’s innovative initiatives have strengthened public safety, enhanced quality of life, and deepened community engagement across Montgomery County, all while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and service."
The association made the announcement on Tuesday and expressed similar sentiments.Â
"This distinction is one of the most prestigious honors in law enforcement, recognizing outstanding leadership and service among more than 3,000 sheriffs nationwide," they shared.Â
"Sheriff Cunningham has made a lasting impact on Montgomery County through innovative initiatives that strengthen public safety, enhance the quality of life for residents, and promote meaningful community engagement—while consistently upholding the highest standards of professionalism and service."
