A man from Montgomery was sentenced to 15 years in prison following an incident in 2024 in which he reportedly shot at officers during a vehicle pursuit.

According to an announcement from U.S Attorney Kevin Davidson, Lorenzo Anterrio Monta, 38, was sentenced on May 15 for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The announcement stated that on March 21, 2024 officers with the Montgomery Police Department (MPD) attempted to stop a car traveling near Eastdale Road and Atlanta Highway that was reported to have been stolen.

The driver of the car accelerated, kicking off a pursuit. During the incident an occupant of the vehicle that was later identified as Monta leaned out of a window and fired multiple shots at policemen.

The car was eventually brought to a stop and the occupants fled on foot before being apprehended. Monta was found to have a handgun in his pocket.

He was also found later to have had prior felony convictions and was prohibited from owning firearms or ammunition.

“Lorenzo Monta’s actions showed a complete disregard for public safety and law enforcement,” said Davidson in the announcement. “Firing a weapon during a high-speed pursuit placed countless lives at risk. The sentence imposed was the maximum allowed by statute and reflects the seriousness of the offense."

"Our office remains committed to holding armed, violent felons accountable and we will continue working with our local and federal partners to protect our communities from gun violence.”
