A man from Montgomery has been sentenced to seven years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, said a press release from U.S. Attorney Kevin Davidson.

According to the press release, Jeremy Dionne Smiley, 36, was sentenced on Thursday after pleading guilty on Oct. 20, 2025. He was also ordered to serve an additional three years of supervised release.

In his plea agreement Smiley admitted to using an AR-15 during a domestic incident in February of 2024. During that time he had been on federal supervised release after completing a 71-month prison sentence for a prior federal firearms conviction.

Possessing the firearm resulted in a new federal charge, the press release said. There is no parole in the federal system.
