Montgomery seniors of ages 55 and up are invited to join the Foster Grandparents Program, with an information meeting on the program set for Jan. 7.Â
The City of Montgomery was given $115,000 from AmeriCorps for the program in June of 2024.
Volunteers will learn how to tutor and mentor kindergarten through eighth-grade students at Highland Gardens Community Center, McIntyre Community Center, and the Therapeutic Recreation Center.
"This unique program connects seniors with children who need guidance, support, and encouragement," said an announcement on social media by the City of Montgomery.Â
Benefits for volunteers include tax-free stipends for those eligible and paid training to prepare for the role.
The information meeting will be held at 1 p.m. at 25 Washington Avenue in Montgomery.Â
