Morgan Academy sweeps Monroe Academy to advance in varsity baseball playoffs

Morgan Academy and Meadowview Christian School played several baseball and softball games last week.

The Morgan Academy varsity Senators baseball team swept the Monroe Academy Volunteers to advance in the AISA State Championship Baseball Playoffs.

The Senators beat the Volunteers 12-0 and 10-0 on Tuesday, April 15 and will play again on April 22.

Morgan Academy head baseball coach Paul Thomas said he was pleased with the play of his kids. He said Barron Frazer and Cade Henderson had “two of their best outings of the year, which gave us a good chance to win.” He said, “Over all we swung the bats and executed well on offense… We are looking forward to being able to take on a very solid Macon East team next Tuesday.”

In game two, the Senators scored six runs in the second inning to go on to win 10-0. Henderson walked, scoring one run, Frazer doubled, scoring three runs and Clifton Smith singled, scoring one run. Thomas Clay Atchison also hit into a fielder's choice, but one run still scored.

Henderson took the mound first for the Senators. He surrendered three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out five and walking none.

The Senators got 12 walks for the game. Travis Jones, Frazer, Henderson, and Speedie Pernell led the team with two walks each. Wallis Gilmore stole two of four bases for Morgan Academy in the game.

In game one, Gilmore drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Senators past Monroe Academy 12-0. He doubled in the third inning, scoring three runs, and walked in the fourth inning, scoring one.

Frazer took the hill first for Morgan Academy Varsity Senators. He gave up one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out eight and walking one.

The Senators accumulated nine hits in the game. Pernell, Trevor White, and Gilmore each got two hits for the Senators. Smith led Morgan with two walks. And Gilmore stole two bases.
