In a post on social media, the Newquay Coastguard said: "After arriving on scene and assessing the situation, a technical rope rescue was set up and carried out.

"A rope technician was lowered down to the dog and brought down safely to the bottom of the cliff.

"Thankfully the dog was uninjured and reunited with its owner once back on the ground.

"We would like to remind people to always keep your dog on a lead when in the vicinity of cliffs, now matter how well-behaved you feel they are.

"Thanks to Padstow team and Newquay Lifeguards for their assistance today.

"If you see someone in difficulty along the coast, do not attempt to rescue them yourselves, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard."
