A tangled deer had to be freed by firefighters after it got caught in a football net wrapped around its antlers and neck.

The animal was found unable to move this morning, with its head wrapped in the netting on Sept. 4.

Crew from Brentwood Fire Station in Essex had to lower the goal post before untangling the deer.

It was uninjured by its ordeal and ran into the nearby trees.

An Essex Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "Talk about a game of two halves.

"Green watch was called out this morning after a deer got itself tangled in a football net.

"Luckily, our team was on hand to tackle the situation, carefully freeing the deer so it could make a quick run up the wing back to safety.

"As you can see, it was soon off and running - a real hat-trick ending."

The RSPCA have previously warned people to put away their football nets after use and to store them away safely.
