Generic Scam Alert - VAULT IMAGE

HELENA, Mont. — City officials are sounding the alarm about a text message scam making the rounds in Helena.

According to a Facebook post from the City of Helena, scammers have been texting residents claiming they owe money for unpaid parking tickets. The fraudulent messages demand immediate payment and even reference Montana code to make them look real.

But city officials say it's all fake. The Helena Parking Division doesn't collect fines through text messages, so anyone getting these texts is being targeted by scammers.

If you get one of these messages, don't respond and don't click any links. Just delete it.

Anyone who wants to check if they actually have outstanding parking tickets can call the City of Helena at 406-447-8368.
