GREAT FALLS, Mont. – A house in Great Falls took heavy damage after a fire started in the kitchen, prompting a response from Great Falls Fire Rescue.

The dispatch center received a call about the fire at 6:39 p.m. on October 20, asking fire crews to respond at 1430 8th Avenue NW, according to a release by Great Falls Fire Rescue about the incident.

When the first fire crew arrived, they saw smoke in the house. At the time, the house’s occupants and pets were all standing safely outside.

Firefighters entered the home and extinguished the fire.

Great Falls Fire Rescue said the fire was determined to be an accident  and happened because the stove was turned on while multiple items were on the stovetop.

The house’s occupant was put in contact with the American Red Cross, according to Great Falls Fire Rescue.
