The Tampa developer who has developed several properties in Selma, including the Lodges on Lincoln shown here, is working on a new project off Citizen's Parkway.
The Selma City Council was introduced to a new housing development on Citizen’s Parkway at their Oct. 14 meeting.
A representative of The Village at Doyle Pointe told the council that InVictus, a Tampa developer with a history in Selma, plans to develop another project on property just outside the Selma city limits.
They plan to ask the city to annex the property. Meanwhile, they are seeking to change the zoning to allow a third story to be added to the project.
According to the InVictus website, a 56-home project was funded by the Alabama Housing Finance Authority in the 2024 funding cycle. “This development should begin construction in the third quarter of 2025,” the website said.
City Council President Billy Young said the city needs to quickly consider the annex request. City Attorney Major Madison Jr. said he hoped to have a proposal ready by the last city council meeting of the month.
“Any time we get more housing for Selma is a good thing” because it will increase the city’s housing capacity and increase property taxes.
InVictus bought the Harmony Club on Water Avenue in January and developed the Lodges on Lincoln in 2021, among other projects.
In other business, the city council said it would find a way to make Memorial Stadium more available to the Selma High School track team. Track Coach Jeffery Walker said that he was told he would have to pay the city $400 every time his team practiced at the recently rebuilt track.
Young said the council would work with city officials to come up with a more reasonable fee schedule.
