New pier at Roland Cooper State Park to bring recreation, tourism, prosperity to Camden

The new pier at Roland Cooper State Park is shaped like a “T,” but it may as well be shaped like a dollar sign.

At a ribbon cutting for the new pier on June 27, officials spoke about how the facility will promote tourism and boost the local economy by attracting more anglers and more fishing tournaments.

Alabama Black Belt Adventure Director Pam Swanner said the outdoor industry generates $1 billion in the Black Belt, supporting 24,000 jobs. “The outdoor industry is an economic development tool,” she said.
