New surveillance cameras are being installed in the entertainment district of Montgomery in an effort to "enhance" public safety, said the Montgomery Police Department (MPD) on social media.

"These cameras will be monitored 24/7 by the Montgomery Police Department’s Strategic Technology and Resource (STAR) Center to help keep our community secure," said social media post by MPD.

The installations come after Police Chief James Graboys held a press conference on June 23 to announce an increase in operations following several unrelated shootings in which one was injured and a teenage girl was killed.

In the press conference Graboys said that they would increase the use of camera coverage that will use license plate and facial recognition software.
