Author and motivational speaker Stedman Graham will be part of a delegation from San Diego, CA to visit Selma and the wider Black Belt region on Aug. 26-29 to commemorate Civil Rights history and develop a plan to address needs for residents.

The Jonathan Daniels CDC and the John Robert Lewis Blackbelt Community Development Process will host the delegation led by Damon Carson of the Neighborhood Housing Association (NHA).

Graham is Oprah Winfrey's long-term partner and is known as an educator and philanthropist.

The delegation will tour the Black Belt before culminating with a gala to commemorate the 61st anniversary of the 1963 march on Washington and the anniversary of the death of Emmitt Till in 1955. Aug. 27 is the 61st anniversary of the death of W.E. Du Bois.

"The goal is for them to share the expertise they have developed and help the Jonathan Daniels CDC create a [$500,000,000] endowment that will design a strategy to address the overall needs of the area with a wholistic approach through the John Robert Lewis Blackbelt Development Process," said a press release from the Jonathan Daniels CDC.
