Bambi Hoggle and Perry County animal shelter

Bambi Hoggle, with her German Shepherd Luna, realized there is a problem with stray animals in Marion and Perry County, so she started Pawsitive Hearts of Perry Co. that will be a nonprofit shelter.

Pawsitive Hearts of Perry County is throwing a tail-wagging celebration Oct. 25 with its first-ever “Howl-O-ween Pawty,” a free, family-friendly Halloween event designed especially for dogs and their humans.

Held at the Ralph Ingle Memorial Arena in Marion, the event kicks off at 4 p.m. and will have a festive mix of spooky fun and community spirit. There will be a costume parade and contest, dog-friendly games like bobbing for tennis balls, a trick-or-treat trail for kids and pups, a spooky photo booth and paw print crafts.

This is going to be a fun night for the whole family,” said Bambi Hoggle of Pawsitive Hearts. “Instead of people bobbing for apples, we’ll have dogs bobbing for tennis balls, it’s something different, and our rescue puppy will probably try to get them all.

Local vendors will be on site, including a bakery, a jeweler and homemade lip balm stand, and a farm-fresh egg seller. A hot dog and nacho vendor may also join, depending on availability. Volunteers from area schools are expected to help out, earning service hours while supporting the cause.

Guests are encouraged to bring their pups, costumes and candy buckets for a night of treats and togetherness under the stars. A movie screening will cap off the evening. Hoggle said “we also accept donations to help care for the rescued animals.”

The “Howl-O-ween Pawty” is open to the public and aims to raise awareness for animal rescue efforts while celebrating the joy pets bring to families. For more information, visit Pawsitive Hearts of Perry County on Facebook.
